The HIV Serology Laboratory and the HIV Characterisation Laboratory
form the HIV State Reference Laboratory which was established
in 1987.
Its functions are:
- To provide confirmatory testing of all new diagnoses of HIV
in Victoria
- To detect and quantify HIV in clinical material
- To evaluate new assays for the detection of HIV markers
- To determine antiretroviral drug susceptibility
- To determine relatedness between HIV strains.Body
