Enterovirus Reference
The Enterovirus Reference Laboratory was established in 1994 and has played a major role in Australia’s commitment to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) program for the global eradication of poliomyelitis.

The laboratory is accredited by the WHO and has the following roles as a member of the global poliovirus laboratory network:
- national laboratory for Australia
- national laboratory for the Pacific Island countries
- national laboratory for Brunei Darussalam
- one of two regional reference laboratories for the Western Pacific region
- national Polio Reference Laboratory for Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Pacific Island Countries and Territories and Papua New Guinea
- Polio Regional Reference Laboratory for the Western Pacific region
