Serology
The serology laboratory provides a diagnostic service to Victorian hospitals, public institutions and private pathology laboratories as well as assisting in outbreak investigations and surveillance serology for the Victorian Department of Human Services.
The major categories of serology testing performed are:
- Respiratory infections
- Rashes
- Sexually transmitted diseases
- Arboviruses
- Febrile illnesses
- Parasite infections
The serology department has an active role in :
- Pre-vaccination screening for Q fever (an ongoing program to minimise the incidence of Q fever)
- Measles surveillance
- Mumps and Rubella surveillance
- Confirmatory testing for syphilis
