Appearance of IgG is often delayed in acute M. pneumoniae infection and IgM response may be absent or delayed in reinfection.

M. pneumoniae serology testing will be performed when a convalescent sample has been received or when clinical notes indicate that symptoms have been present for more than 3 weeks.

Submit an appropriate respiratory sample for M. pneumoniae PCR if clinically indicated.
